Introduction: The digital design is based on the latest technique of digitizing the analog waveforms generated during the surge test of the Wound components like filed coils or winding system like traction motor armature. In the conventional surge Comparison tester the wave form of the test coil has to be compared with the waveform of the reference coil. As the same reference coil is subjected to repeated high voltage, its insulation gets deteriorated and hence its waveform becomes a unreliable standard. This shortcoming is eliminated in this design and also it has number of other advantages which are described in what follows:
